Treatment
of Total Joint Replacement
A
successful outcome after total joint replacement depends upon
the ability of the patient to restore normal function of the
joint after the surgery. After hip, knee or shoulder replacement
the joint is stiff, swollen and weak. Appropriate physical
therapy utilizing modalities (cold pack , electrical stimulation)
to control pain and swelling and focused range of motion and
functional strengthening exercises will ensure that your joint
replacement allows you to continue with an active lifestyle
without the pain of arthritis limiting your activity.
Treatment
of the Amputee
With
our many years of experience, we consider this a unique specialty
at Active PT. We work closely with the prosthetist and the
patient to ensure the best outcome for the fitting and rehabilitation
of the individual following an upper or lower extremity amputation.
Treatments include strengthening, stretching, core strengthening,
balance techniques, gait training, proprioceptive re-training.
Gait training (walking) for the lower extremity amputee is
critical to the rehabilitation process and we use individualized
exercise prescription to ensure an optimum outcome for the
amputee.
