Active PT
In January
2006, after 10 years clinical practice in outpatient orthopedics
for major hospitals in Michigan, Rick Bastarache, MSPT, DPT
had the desire to open his own physical therapy clinic.
Active
Physical Therapy and Wellness began as an independent, orthopedic
physical therapy practice in the Grand Blanc Township region
of Genesee County. Our mission statement is as follows:
“Active
Physical Therapy and Wellness is committed to personalized,
skilled and evidence based delivery of orthopedic joint,
spine and sports physical therapy services. Service is delivered
in an environment of integrity and empathy; promoting quality
physical therapy services, injury prevention and health
education.
Active Physical Therapy and Wellness will work tirelessly
to provide aggressive and appropriate therapeutic rehabilitation
services in a professional, friendly and compassionate environment.
About
Rick Bastarache, MSPT, DPT
Attained
a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from The
University of Massachusetts, 1983.
- Attained
Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Simmons College,
Boston, MA in 1995. Received a Veteran’s Administration
Academic Scholarship which assisted with the final two years
of the physical therapy program.
- Completed
Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Rocky Mountain University
of Health Professions in April of 2005. Key competency for
this degree consisted of researching and implementing evidence
based examination and treatment models in physical therapy.
- Developed
and presented several clinical education sessions to physical/occupational
therapy staff. Titles included, Muscle Physiology, Lateral
Epicondylitis, Soft Tissue Mobilization, etc.
- Featured
speaker at bi-annual “Bone-UP” seminars sponsored
jointly by McLaren Regional Medical Center and Family Orthopedic
Associates. These were free seminars, open to the public
and presented on a wide variety of orthopedic topics.

Member
of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1992.
Involved in clinical teaching and committee work.
- Featured
article in The Fenton Press (Sunday section of the Flint
Journal) titled, “Earning His Wings; Before Nick Smith
could learn to fly, he had to learn to walk again”.
- Personal:
Married 24 years with three children (Amy 21, Erin 19 and
Marc 17).
- Much
of my free time is spent with family, church friends and
running, biking or going to the local gym.
- Finished
the 2000 Detroit Marathon in 4 hours 11 minutes.
